How to Prepare Your Materials:
TRASH – All trash should be bagged. Don’t overfill your cart – the lid must close tightly. Overflow and materials outside may be subject to additional charge or will not be collected.
RECYCLING – Empty loose recyclables directly into your cart. No loose plastic bags and never bag your recyclables. Don’t overfill your cart – the lid must close tightly. Contaminated materials or overflow may be subject to an additional charge, or not collected. Looking for more information on how to set up a successful recycling system in your home? Visit wm.com/recycle right for step-by-step instructions, downloadable container labels and more. Recycle clean and dry bottles, cans, paper and cardboard. Break down cardboard boxes to keep them from getting stuck in your container. Don’t place plastic bags or liners in your cart (local recycling drop-off programs for bags may be available). Visit wm.com/recycleright for more information on recycling.
GREEN WASTE – Don’t overfill your cart – the lid must close tightly. Contaminated materials or overflow may be subject to an additional charge, or not collected. Acceptable items include small branches and plants, grass clippings and leaves. Non-acceptable items include dirt, stone, concrete, rock. No limbs larger than 3in. in diameter.
BULKY ITEM COLLECTION – Charged for two (2) items per trip (combined bulky, white goods, e-waste). Acceptable items include sofas, chairs, washers, dryer, toilet, etc. Non-acceptable items include tires, batteries, paints, oils, construction debris, chemicals of any kind, Freon, rocks, sand, gravel, dirt, logs, carpet, hazardous or medical waste.
What belongs in Your Container
Beginning January 1, 2022, SB 1383 requires Californians to sort and separately collect food scraps, yard debris and food-soiled paper from trash and recycling. This means food scraps are no longer acceptable in your trash container. For more information on SB 1383, visit https://www.wm.com/us/en/sb1383. Acceptable items include standard household trash like chip bags, plastic bags, & textiles (donate if lightly used). Non-acceptable items include construction waste, auto parts, tires, household hazardous waste (paint, oil, household cleaners), medical or electronic waste and food scraps.
What is Contamination
Contamination occurs when non-acceptable items are placed in your cart. To avoid potential contamination charges or non-collection, and ensure your recyclables have a shot at becoming new products, it’s important that only the right items make their way.
