The City of Hidden Hills has completed the installation of new Flock Safety cameras at each gated entrance into the community, further strengthening public safety and enhancing law enforcement’s ability to respond to and investigate crime.
Flock cameras are automated license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras designed specifically to help law enforcement identify vehicles involved in criminal activity. The system captures images of license plates from vehicles entering the City and records limited vehicle characteristics, such as color and type. These cameras are not intended to record drivers or passengers, and they are positioned to avoid capturing images of private property.
All gate entrances are now equipped with this technology, allowing the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station to actively monitor vehicle traffic entering the community. The data collected through the system provides deputies with another investigative tool that can be used to identify suspect vehicles, locate stolen cars, and assist with time-sensitive investigations. Flock cameras are already widely used by law enforcement agencies throughout California and have proven effective in supporting criminal investigations across jurisdictions.
Authorized surrounding law enforcement agencies within the State of California may also access license plate data through the system, allowing for coordinated efforts when crimes involve multiple communities or travel corridors. This shared access strengthens regional crime prevention and response efforts while remaining focused on vehicle-related information only.
The City will work closely with the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station to track how the system is being used, including the number of license plates read and investigations aided by the technology. This information will be reported to the City Council to ensure transparency and accountability.
The installation of Flock cameras represents another proactive step by the City to support law enforcement and help keep Hidden Hills a safe and secure community.
