Home Ignition Zone Evaluation Program

June 14, 2021

Residents of Hidden Hills are able to schedule a Home Ignition Zone Evaluation through the Resource Conservation District (RCD) of the Santa Monica Mountains.

A home ignition zone evaluation is a review of the vulnerability of your house and landscape to wildfire and ember-ignition. During this assessment, an evaluator will review defensible space and home hardening principles and make specific recommendations based on your property. Evaluations are performed by trained volunteers and RCD staff and take about 45 to 60 minutes to complete. A summary of all the recommendations along with additional resources and materials is provided at the end of the evaluation.

This service is presently provided free of charge and will remain free until grant funds are exhausted – afterward, the service will continue to be offered for a fee. To make an appointment, contact the RCD’s Community Resilience Coordinator at akunsch@rcdsmm.org and include your address and a phone number.

For home hardening and fire-wise landscaping tips, visit www.defensiblespace.org.
