The City has adopted a new Drone Ordinance to ensure drones are used safely and responsibly within Hidden Hills. The ordinance goes into effect on January 10, 2026, and addresses growing concerns about privacy, security, and interference with emergency operations.
The ordinance prohibits flying drones over private property without written permission, over City property without authorization, or in ways that disrupt law enforcement, fire response, or Red Flag emergency conditions. It also bans drone use that invades personal privacy, such as surveillance, harassment, or unauthorized recording. Operating a drone while under the influence is also prohibited.
Residents may fly drones over their own property, and emergency personnel may use drones for official duties. Commercial operators and special events must obtain City approval and show valid FAA authorization.
These rules promote responsible drone use while protecting community safety and quality of life. To report illegal drone activity in Hidden Hills, please contact City Hall at 818-888-9281 rather than the Sheriff’s Department.
