The City of Hidden Hills understands that many residents have questions about Boething Nursery’s recent sale and the future use of the site. While this parcel is not within the City’s sphere of influence, meaning it is outside our jurisdiction and traditional land use authority, we were able to learn the intended use and subsequently notified the City of Los Angeles about the buyer. While we cannot guarantee all details, we requested a meeting with the new owners, and here is what we were told:
- The property will be developed as a cemetery, similar to another site owned and operated by the same company: Comparable Property (link provided by the owner).
- According to the City of Los Angeles, no additional zoning approvals are required for cemetery use. Therefore, we do not expect there will be significant, if any, public input in this process.
- On a positive note, this project will avoid large-scale development and the associated years of construction and increased traffic, while preserving open space. The entrances will be located on Valley Circle Blvd., reducing through-traffic at our gates and maintaining the privacy of Hidden Hills.
- We understand that most services will be held between 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and that the architectural design will be aesthetically compatible with the neighborhood—featuring discreet lighting, lush landscaping, and modest structures.
It is important to note that the City of Hidden Hills has not been a decision-making party in this process.
