Over the past couple of weeks, Hidden Hills has experienced recurring landline service outages. While the City is not responsible for landline infrastructure, these continued disruptions present a potential public safety concern. For this reason, we feel it is important to keep the community informed.
Even if your landline remained operational during the initial incident, we strongly encourage you to check your line again. AT&T has indicated that another incident of copper wire theft may be the cause of this most recent outage. Unfortunately, the City cannot confirm this directly, as we do not hold the service contract and have limited visibility into their operations.
We have been in communication with AT&T numerous times throughout the past two weeks. Despite our efforts, there has been little urgency on their part to resolve the matter, likely due to their broader effort to phase out traditional copper landline service.
Your City Council continues to proactively oppose legislation that would allow providers to discontinue landline service in our community. When the appropriate point in the legislative cycle arrives, we may call upon residents to send letters and make their voices heard to help preserve this essential service.
These outages affect all of us, including City facilities, entry gates, and the City’s ability to reach residents. Please be sure to keep alternative communication devices, such as cell phones, accessible and charged, especially if you are expecting visitors or important calls.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as we receive more information.
